Visiting Antalya in August

August heat

Antalya is very hot in August. Daytime highs reach 38°C, and nights stay warm, around 24°C. With little rain and long, sunny days, sightseeing can feel tiring by midday. Save Kaleiçi's narrow lanes and the Roman-era Hadrian's Gate for the cooler morning or evening.

The sea is a welcome break, and a shady boat trip along the coast can suit the hottest part of the day. Long walks around the exposed ruins at Perge are less comfortable in the afternoon. For families with young children, keep beach time to the cooler hours and plan a quiet indoor break after lunch.

Events and crowds

August is peak summer season, so expect busy beaches, packed resort areas and higher prices than in spring or autumn. Lara and Konyaaltı can feel especially crowded. Antalya's popular sights also draw plenty of visitors, while April to May and October to November are generally better-value, calmer times to come.

Turkey's Victory Day falls on August 30. It's a national holiday, with official ceremonies and celebrations; some services may change their usual hours. The Antalya coast is lively around this date, so don't expect a quiet beach escape.

Make the heat work

Plan outdoor sightseeing for morning, then spend the hottest hours by the water or in an air-conditioned museum. Aspendos, with its remarkably well-preserved Roman theatre, is a memorable trip from Antalya, but its open stone seating can be harsh under the midday sun. Check for evening performances before you go; the theatre hosts opera and ballet events, though they don't run every night.

For a cooler city break, take the tram to Kaleiçi later in the day and stop for piyaz, Antalya's bean salad with tahini. It's a local specialty and a filling meal after an evening walk.
