Rhodes Weather in August

August heat

Rhodes is hot and mostly dry in August. Days reach 32°C, and evenings stay warm, with lows around 26°C. Rain is rare, so you can count on long, sunny days for swimming at Elli Beach or taking a boat trip along the coast.

The heat makes long walks around the Medieval City and the Lindos Acropolis tiring in the middle of the day. Save those visits for later, and spend the hottest hours by the water or in an air-conditioned café. The sea is a welcome break, but don't expect cool evenings.

Feast days and crowds

August 15 is the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, a major Greek holiday. Villages across Rhodes hold church services and local celebrations, though events vary by place. It's a chance to see a more local side of the island.

Rhodes is in peak season, with busy beaches, packed restaurants and higher prices than in spring or autumn. Around the holiday, many Greek families travel, adding to the crowds. If you hate crowds, choose April to June or September to November instead.

Make your visit easier

Travelling with kids? Keep the Lindos Acropolis for the cooler part of the day. The climb is steep and exposed, and the bright white village streets can feel punishing under the midday sun.

In Rhodes Town, visit the Palace of the Grand Master later in the day, then wander the Old Town's stone lanes as the heat eases. For Lindos, take the road from Rhodes Town and allow time for traffic in high season. August has 13.4 hours of daylight, so there's still plenty of time for the beach after sightseeing.
