Events and local life

February is part of the winter low season, and the island feels quieter than in summer. Some hotels and restaurants close, especially outside Rhodes Town, so you'll find fewer choices. Prices are generally lower than in peak summer, though exact deals vary.

Carnival season, called Apokries in Greece, can fall in February. Its dates change each year, and celebrations vary by place. If you're in Rhodes Town during Carnival, look out for local events rather than expecting a large, island-wide festival.

Is February right for you?

If you hate crowds, you'll enjoy wandering the Old Town without summer's busy streets. Travelling with kids? Short outdoor visits work better than a full day at the beach, especially when rain sets in.

Make the Street of the Knights part of a flexible Old Town walk. Its stone lanes can be slippery after rain, and you can duck into a café nearby if the weather turns. February is a quieter, cooler choice, but April to June and September to November usually bring better weather for a wider range of plans.
