Nanchang Weather in June

June: hot and very wet

June feels sticky, with warm nights and frequent rain. It's hotter and wetter than May, and the month's rain can disrupt outdoor plans. Cloudy skies and limited sunshine may also make views less clear.

You can still visit the Jiangxi Provincial Museum or explore the Tengwang Pavilion between showers. But long walks around the riverside or outdoor time at Meiling Scenic Area can be tiring in the heat. Keep flexible plans for days when heavy rain makes a trip less pleasant.

Dragon Boat season

The Dragon Boat Festival often falls in June, though its date changes each year. You'll see the holiday marked with zongzi, sticky rice parcels wrapped in leaves. Nanchang's rivers make the festival a natural fit, but don't assume there'll be a major race in town.

Travelling with kids? A museum visit is easier to manage than a long outdoor outing in humid weather.

Quieter than October

June is summer, but its persistent rain and sticky conditions can mean fewer visitors than in October, one of Nanchang's best months to visit. Hotel prices are often easier than during October's popular travel periods, though the Dragon Boat holiday can bring a short-lived rise in demand.

For a local rainy-day break, head to the indoor exhibits at the Jiangxi Provincial Museum, near the city's Honggutan area. Then try Nanchang rice noodles at a nearby restaurant. If you're set on Tengwang Pavilion, visit when the rain eases; wet steps and hazy views can take some of the pleasure out of the visit.
