October is Nanchang's best month for a visit, and the weather feels much easier than September's. Afternoons are warm, evenings are cooler, and rain is less of a bother than in November. Expect some cloudy spells, but you'll still get sunshine for walks and sightseeing.

The comfortable days suit a wander around Tengwang Pavilion or Bayi Square. You can also enjoy a boat ride on the Gan River when conditions are calm. Skip long exposed walks in the sticky middle of the day if humidity gets to you. Rain falls on several days, so a wet afternoon can still interrupt outdoor plans.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday falls in early October, often bringing a busy travel period. Nanchang's sights and trains can feel crowded then, and hotel prices tend to rise. Outside the holiday, October is generally calmer and better value than that peak week.

If you hate crowds, visit later in the month. You'll have more room to explore Tengwang Pavilion and stroll along the riverfront without the holiday rush.

Make the most of your visit

Travelling with kids? Bayi Square is an easy place for a relaxed evening walk, with room to pause after sightseeing. For a local meal, try Nanchang rice noodles, often served mixed with chilli and other toppings. If you'd rather have something warming, look for *wa guan tang*, a slow-cooked soup made in a clay pot.

One useful local tip: pair Tengwang Pavilion with a walk along the nearby Gan River, rather than treating the pavilion as a quick photo stop. October's cooler evenings make the riverside a pleasant way to end the day.
