August is one of Nadi's best months, with warm days and mild evenings. The air can feel humid, but rain is limited compared with September. July is similarly dry, so August isn't the only good choice.

There's enough sunshine for a visit to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant or a boat trip from Port Denarau. Showers can still interrupt plans, so keep indoor sights like Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple for a rainy spell. Cloud can also soften the beach-day sunshine.

Events and crowds

Nadi doesn't have a major fixed festival in August. Suva's Hibiscus Festival is often held around this time, though dates change. It's a long way from Nadi, so check the dates before making the trip.

August falls in Fiji's busy dry-season period. You'll find more visitors than in the wetter months, especially around Denarau and the popular island day trips. Prices can be higher than in the low season, too. If you hate crowds, spend your beach time at Wailoaloa rather than joining the busiest boat excursions.

Making the most of it

Travelling with kids? The comfortable weather suits a relaxed day at Denarau's pools, with less chance of rain disrupting plans than in September.

For an easy local outing, take a bus from Nadi town towards Denarau instead of relying on a taxi for every trip. Ask at the Nadi bus station which service goes to Denarau, as routes and stops can vary. In town, try kokoda, Fiji's citrus-marinated fish dish, at a local restaurant. It's a good fit for a warm evening after sightseeing.
