May weather in Nadi

May feels warm and humid, with daytime highs around 27°C and little change after dark. Rain falls on many days, though showers often leave time for a visit between them. The month is less wet than April, but more unsettled than June.

You can still enjoy Nadi's Sri Siva Subramaniya Temple or browse the town market. For a drier stretch, take a boat trip to the Mamanuca Islands, but keep plans flexible. Rain can interrupt beach time, and cloud and short daylight make long, sunny afternoons less reliable. The Garden of the Sleeping Giant is lovely in the green season, though wet paths can be slippery.

Events and local days

Fiji Girmit Day, on May 14, honours the arrival of indentured Indian labourers. Commemorations and cultural events take place around Fiji, including in the west near Nadi; ask locally about events during your stay. It's a meaningful chance to learn more about Fiji's history and Indo-Fijian culture.

Travelling with kids? A temple visit or a short market stop is easier to fit around passing showers than a full beach day.

May is quieter than July and August, which are Nadi's best-weather months and a busier time to visit. You'll generally find fewer holiday crowds in May, and accommodation can cost less than in peak season. It's a useful trade-off if you don't mind damp spells.

At the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, ask staff which paths are in good shape after rain. For a nearby meal, try kokoda, Fiji's lime-marinated fish dish, at a Nadi restaurant. Keep an indoor option in mind for afternoons when the showers settle in.
