Meishan Weather in July
China · July climate averages and travel tips
In July, Meishan has average highs of 32°C (89°F) and lows of 23°C (74°F). July is summer in China. The month is very wet, with about 274 mm (10.8 in) of rain spread over 22 days, making it the second wettest month of the year. Humidity averages 78%, so it feels sticky and hotter than the thermometer suggests. You get roughly 13.8 hours of daylight and frequently cloudy skies.
Is July a good time to visit Meishan?
July is not the best time to visit Meishan (1.8/10) mainly because of the rain. The weather is much better in March and November.
Visiting Meishan in July
July: hot and soaked
Meishan feels sticky in July, and it's one of the harder months to enjoy here. Afternoons reach 32°C, nights stay around 23°C, and the humidity is high. Skies are often cloudy, and you'll get rain on many days. With only about two hours of sun a day on average, don't count on a clear stretch for outdoor plans. If you can, aim for March or November instead, when the weather is much kinder.
Rain can interrupt a walk through Dongpo City or a stroll along the riverside. The Sansu Shrine, with its gardens and halls, gives you more to see when showers roll in, so it's a good fallback. Save longer outdoor outings for a drier spell, and avoid making a day trip depend on clear views.
Summer break and crowds
July brings China's school summer holiday, so family trips can make popular sights busier than they are in March or November. Meishan isn't as famous a summer stop as Chengdu, though, so crowds may be manageable outside holiday weekends. Rooms can cost more than in the quieter months, but you won't find every part of town packed.
There's no major nationwide public holiday in July, and I can't point to a fixed Meishan festival that reliably falls this month. Local events may vary from year to year, so the school break is the safer thing to plan around.
If you hate crowds, visit the Sansu Shrine on a weekday rather than during the busiest weekends of the school break.
Make rainy days work
Keep your plans flexible. A shower may pass quickly, but repeated rain can leave streets damp and sightseeing slower. July is very rainy, and August is slightly wetter, so this isn't Meishan's driest summer window. June is the drier month on either side, though it still isn't the best choice for a trip.
When the rain sets in, try Dongpo pork, the braised pork dish named after local poet Su Shi, also known as Su Dongpo. Then visit the shrine linked to Su Shi and his family once the weather lets up. A practical tip: pair the shrine with a meal of Dongpo pork in central Meishan, rather than setting aside a long outdoor day that rain could spoil.
