July brings warm days, with highs of 28°C and lows of 23°C. Rain averages 46 mm over 8 days, less than June's 63 mm but more than August's 27 mm. With 7.6 hours of sun a day and excellent comfort ratings, it's a good month for walking around Ubud, visiting temples such as Tirta Empul, or spending time on Sanur's beach. The rain can still interrupt plans, so don't assume every day will be dry. For Mount Batur, set out before sunrise; save a Ubud market visit or a walk around the rice terraces for earlier in the day, before the strongest sun.

Events and crowds

The Bali Arts Festival, or Pesta Kesenian Bali, typically runs from June into July at the Taman Werdhi Budaya Arts Centre in Denpasar, with performances and exhibitions celebrating Balinese arts. Its dates vary, so check the programme for your visit. July is also part of Bali's busy dry-season period and coincides with school holidays for many overseas visitors. Expect more people and higher accommodation prices than in quieter months such as February or March, especially around Ubud, Seminyak and popular south-coast beaches.

A practical tip

For a quieter temple visit, go to Tirta Empul in Tampaksiring early, before tour groups arrive from Ubud. The bathing pools are an active place of worship, not just a photo stop: follow local guidance, wear a sarong, and don't enter the water unless you're taking part appropriately. The inland drive can be slower than the map suggests, so leave time for the winding roads.
