Meishan Weather in October

Mild days, damp skies

October feels cooler and less soggy than September, but Meishan is still often cloudy and damp. Afternoons are mild, while evenings feel cool. Rain can interrupt plans, so outdoor sightseeing works best when you can duck inside nearby.

You can visit Sansu Temple, dedicated to the writers Su Xun, Su Shi and Su Zhe, between showers. The grounds are leafy and pleasant in autumn, but wet paths can be slippery. Skip a long countryside walk if steady rain sets in; November is drier and often a better month for that.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. Meishan can get busier, especially around Sansu Temple and transport links, as people travel across the country. Hotels and train tickets may cost more or sell out during this week than in quieter months.

If you hate crowds, visit after Golden Week. The rest of October is usually calmer, with less holiday pressure than the first week. It's also generally less wet than September, though November is drier and one of Meishan's best months overall.

Make room for Dongpo pork

Travelling with kids? Sansu Temple gives you a manageable cultural stop, and a rainy spell can be a good time to try Dongpo pork, the rich braised pork named for Su Shi.

A useful local tip: pair Sansu Temple with a meal featuring Dongpo pork in Meishan, rather than saving the dish for a stop elsewhere. October's damp weather can make a warm, slow-cooked meal especially welcome. Keep your plans flexible around the frequent showers; the cloud cover and limited sunshine can make even a mild day feel a little grey.
