October: mild, often grey

October feels cool and damp rather than cold. Days reach about 21°C, while evenings dip to 14°C. Rain falls on many days, and thick cloud means you may see little sunshine. Still, it's a comfortable month for city sights and gentle walks.

Fule Mountain works well between showers, with paths and views over Mianyang. Yuewang Tower is another good stop when the weather turns; you can enjoy the architecture without needing a clear day. Skip plans that depend on long, dry hikes, and keep a flexible indoor option in mind.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. Mianyang can feel busier then, especially around popular sights and transport hubs, as people travel for the week. Rooms and train tickets may be harder to find, and prices can rise compared with quieter autumn weeks.

If you hate crowds, visit after the holiday. October is still a popular time overall, but the days beyond Golden Week are usually calmer. It's a better fit for a relaxed city break than the holiday rush.

A good month for local food

October is one of Mianyang's better months to visit, alongside March to April and November. It's cooler and much less rainy than September, though November is drier still. The trade-off is frequent cloud and a damp feel, so don't expect sunny views every day.

Travelling with kids? Take a break from sightseeing at a Mianyang rice-noodle shop. Rice noodles are a local breakfast favourite, and a warm bowl suits a grey morning. At Fule Mountain, choose paths near the main grounds if rain has made the steps slippery.
