Meishan Weather in February

February: cool and cloudy

Meishan's February days are mild, but evenings feel chilly. Expect highs around 14°C and lows near 4°C. The sky is often grey, with little sunshine, though rain is usually light and falls on about six days.

It's a decent month for the San Su Shrine Museum, where you can explore the former home of poet Su Dongpo. Dongpo Lake also works for a quiet stroll between showers. Long hikes may feel damp and gloomy, so save mountain views for a clearer day. March is warmer and sunnier overall.

Holidays and crowds

Chinese New Year, also called Spring Festival, sometimes falls in February. Its date changes each year. If it does, expect busy trains and family crowds at popular sights around the holiday. The Lantern Festival, which marks the end of the New Year celebrations, can also fall in February.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the Spring Festival rush. Outside the holiday, February is generally quieter than busier spring months, and stays may cost less. Prices can rise around the holiday, so don't assume the whole month is a bargain.

A local tip

At the San Su Shrine, take time to read about the Su family before heading to the gardens. It makes the visit more meaningful, even on a grey afternoon. Then try Dongpo pork, a slow-cooked local dish named after Su Dongpo. It's a cosy choice on a chilly evening.
