October weather in Longyan

October is autumn in Longyan, with warm days and cooler evenings. The high reaches 28°C, while nights fall to 16°C. It's less rainy than September, so you'll have more chances to explore outdoors without getting caught in a downpour.

The weather works well for walking around Longyan's old streets or visiting the Hakka earth buildings at Yongding. But humidity still runs high, and afternoons can feel sticky. Save steep walks around the buildings for cooler parts of the day, and don't count on clear skies: cloud cover is common.

Golden Week crowds

China's National Day holiday, known as Golden Week, falls in October. Longyan's popular sights, including the Yongding tulou villages, can get busy as domestic visitors travel. Transport and hotels may cost more during the holiday than in quieter months.

Outside Golden Week, October is a more comfortable time to visit than the hot, wetter September. It's not as cool as November, one of Longyan's best months overall, but rain is lower in October than in November.

If you hate crowds, visit after Golden Week and spend a weekday at Hongkeng Tulou Cluster.

Make time for Yongding

The earth buildings aren't all in one spot, so allow plenty of time to travel between villages. At Hongkeng, look for the round and square tulou, traditional Hakka homes built around shared courtyards. A local guide can help explain how families lived inside them.

October's shorter daylight means you'll have less time for wandering than in summer. Keep your visit focused rather than trying to squeeze several far-apart villages into one day. For a slower break, try Longyan's Hakka food after sightseeing, then enjoy the cooler evening air.
