July feels hot and damp

Longyan is hot, sticky and often cloudy in July. Daytime highs reach 32°C, and the humidity sits around 83%. Rain falls on 16 days, so you may get caught in a shower between sights. The afternoons can feel tiring, especially on exposed paths.

Choose indoor stops or shorter outings, such as exploring the shaded lanes and halls of a Yongding tulou, the region's traditional earthen buildings. Save longer walks around Guanzhi Mountain for a cooler, clearer spell. You'll get more from the view when clouds and rain ease.

Summer crowds, not a festival month

July has no major nationwide public holiday in China, but school holidays bring more family trips. Yongding's tulou villages can feel busier than in quieter months, and popular guesthouses may cost more than in the November-to-January period, which is generally the best time to visit.

If you hate crowds, spend more time in Longyan city and visit the tulou on a weekday. Summer rain is also heavier than in June's total, so allow some flexibility if you're travelling between the city and Yongding.

Make the tulou visit easier

For a practical local tip, check your route to the Yongding tulou before setting out. The villages are outside central Longyan, and wet weather can make a long day of transfers feel even longer. Ask your guesthouse about the day's local transport, especially if you're staying overnight in a tulou village.

Travelling with kids? Keep the outdoor sightseeing short, then try Longyan's local beef dishes in town while the rain passes. July can still work well if you're happy to slow down and build indoor breaks into your day.
