When to go to Lahore: a seasonal guide
Winter and early spring: the best stretch
From November to March, Lahore is at its best. Days are warm or mild, and nights get properly cool, especially in December and January, when lows dip to 6°C or so. It's perfect for walking the Walled City, where lanes lead to the Wazir Khan Mosque and the Delhi Gate. You can also spend long afternoons at Lahore Fort and the Badshahi Mosque without sweating through your shirt.
Evenings are made for Food Street near the Badshahi Mosque. Try siri paye (slow-cooked trotters) for a winter breakfast, or hot gajar halwa (a sweet carrot dessert). Early mornings in December and January can be foggy, which sometimes slows flights and roads. Travelling with kids? Late February and March are easiest, with mild days and little rain.
This is also high season, so expect more visitors and busier hotels. Pakistani school holidays and the wedding season add to the crowds. In February, Basant, the kite festival, was once the big event. Kite flying is now restricted, so don't plan around it.
April to June: hot, then hotter
April is warm and still manageable, though afternoons are getting strong. By May and June, Lahore is very hot. June is the hottest month, with highs of 43°C and warm nights. Rain is rare in May, so the heat is dry and heavy.
If you come now, go out early or after sunset and spend midday in a museum. The Lahore Museum, on the Mall, is a good escape. Mango season starts around now, which is a real treat. Hotels are quieter and cheaper, because few people choose this heat.
July to October: monsoon and the shift back
The monsoon (the summer rainy season) hits in July. It's the wettest month, with rain on 20 days, and August is close behind. Showers cool things down, but humidity climbs and streets can flood. September stays muggy, then October clears up with lots of sun and little rain.
October is a smart pick if you want fewer crowds and easier weather. It's still warm in the afternoon, but evenings soften. Muharram processions and Ramadan or Eid timing shift each year, because they follow the Islamic calendar. Check dates, since shops and sights can close or crowd up. Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha are busy family travel times across Pakistan.
For most trips, aim for late October, November, or February to March.
