Mild days for exploring

February is one of Lahore's most comfortable months for sightseeing. Afternoons feel mild, while evenings and mornings can be cool. You'll get some rain, but showers are usually brief, leaving plenty of time for the old city and its sights.

It's a good month to walk through Lahore Fort and the Walled City without March's stronger heat. The gardens at Shalimar can also make a pleasant stop. Don't count on a whole day of clear skies, though: a rainy spell can make long outdoor visits less appealing.

Events and winter crowds

The Lahore Literary Festival is often held in February, bringing talks and readings to the city. Its dates can change, so check the festival's schedule before building your trip around it.

February sits within Lahore's popular winter travel season, so you won't have the city to yourself. It's generally a better bet than the hot months for comfortable visits, but prices may be firmer than in summer. If you hate crowds, visit major sights on weekdays rather than weekends.

A useful Lahore tip

With daylight ending earlier than in summer, give the Badshahi Mosque and Lahore Fort a daytime slot. They're close together, so you can visit both without spending much time crossing the city. If rain comes through, duck into the Walled City's covered lanes, then stop for a plate of nihari, a slow-cooked meat stew.

Travelling with kids? February's mild afternoons are easier for a walk around Minar-e-Pakistan than the hotter weather just ahead. Mornings can still feel chilly, so save outdoor plans for later in the day.
