June weather

June stays warm, with highs around 29°C and humid air. Rain falls on about 15 days, but the month is drier than May and wetter than July. Expect showers to interrupt some beach time, rather than wash out every day.

You can still enjoy Praia do Futuro between showers, or visit the Dragão do Mar arts centre when clouds gather. Long hikes are less appealing in sticky weather, and wet pavements can make sightseeing on foot less comfortable. Keep plans flexible if you're counting on a full beach day.

Festa Junina

June brings Festa Junina, Brazil's traditional mid-year celebration. In Fortaleza, look for local São João events with forró music, quadrilha folk dances and foods made with corn. Dates and venues vary, so check local listings once you're there.

Crowds and tips

June is generally quieter than Fortaleza's busier July-to-December travel season. You may find less pressure on hotels and restaurants than in peak months, though São João events can draw local crowds. July's school holidays can also make it busier than June.

For a rainy spell, head to the Mercado Central for local crafts and snacks, then continue to the nearby Fortaleza Cathedral when the weather clears. At Praia do Futuro, choose a beach barraca—a large restaurant with its own seating—so you can take cover without giving up your seaside lunch.
