You'll still have good weather for a walk along La Croisette or a look around Le Suquet's old lanes. The short days and changeable skies make long beach afternoons less dependable. Save outdoor plans for brighter spells, and don't count on a full day in the sun.

Christmas in Cannes

Cannes marks the season with Christmas lights and a Christmas market, usually centred around the Allées de la Liberté. Crowds and practical tips

December is low season compared with May and June, or September, two of Cannes' best-loved months. You'll generally find a calmer city and lower hotel prices than in those busier periods. Some beach clubs and seasonal businesses may be closed, so Cannes works better as a city break than a beach holiday.

Travelling with kids? The Christmas market gives you an easy outing without needing to build the day around the weather. If rain sets in, head to Marché Forville for a look at local produce and Provençal food. Check opening times before you go, then try socca, a thin chickpea pancake sold around the market area.
