July heat on the coast

Cannes in July is hot, sunny and mostly dry. Afternoons can feel sticky on the Croisette, but evenings stay warm for dinner outdoors. The sea and long daylight make beach time easy, while shaded streets around Le Suquet are better for a slow wander. July averages a high of 30°C and just three rainy days.

Save longer walks for the cooler parts of the day, and avoid a hard climb up to Le Suquet in the midday heat. June is cooler and wetter; August is just as hot, with more rain.

Fireworks and summer crowds

Bastille Day brings celebrations on July 14, and Cannes' Festival d'Art Pyrotechnique lights up the bay on selected summer evenings. The fireworks are viewed from the seafront, so expect busy spots along the Croisette.

If you hate crowds, choose May, June or September instead. July is peak summer season, with fuller beaches and higher hotel prices than those shoulder-season months. Travelling with kids? A morning on the beach is easier than trying to find space in the afternoon.

Make the most of your day

Take the ferry from Quai Laubeuf to Île Sainte-Marguerite for pine-shaded paths and a break from the city streets. Bring a picnic, or return to Cannes for socca, a thin chickpea pancake sold at local food stalls.

For a quieter swim, try the public beach at Plage du Midi rather than the private beach clubs along the Croisette. In the evening, check the fireworks schedule before choosing a spot by the water: the show draws people to the seafront.
