Visiting Bangkok in July
July: hot, wet days
Bangkok in July feels steamy from morning on. Highs reach 32°C, and humidity makes walking around tiring. Rain falls on many days, often in heavy bursts, while thick cloud and little sunshine can leave the city feeling grey. June is a little hotter and drier; August brings even more rain.
You can still visit the Grand Palace or browse Chatuchak Weekend Market, but sudden downpours can interrupt outdoor plans. Keep indoor stops like the Jim Thompson House or Siam's shopping centres in your day. A long walk along the river or an open-air meal is less appealing when the rain starts.
Festivals and quieter streets
Asalha Puja and Buddhist Lent sometimes fall in July. On these Buddhist holidays, temples hold ceremonies, and people may avoid alcohol. The King's birthday, on July 28, is a public holiday, with official celebrations around the city.
July is low season, so Bangkok generally feels less crowded and hotel prices are often lower than in the cooler months. It's not empty, though: local holiday weekends can bring more visitors to popular sights.
If you hate crowds, July can suit you—just leave room in your plans for rain.
Make rain easier
Use the BTS Skytrain or MRT when showers clog Sukhumvit Road; both help you skip Bangkok's slow traffic. For a wet afternoon near the Grand Palace, head to Tha Maharaj, a riverside mall with covered space for a meal.
Try boat noodles in Victory Monument when you want a quick, warming lunch between showers. The small bowls are easy to order one at a time, and nearby BTS stations make it simpler to get around without a long, rainy walk.
