June heat on the Red Sea

Aqaba is hot in June, with daytime highs around 37°C and warm nights around 21°C. The air is dry, and rain is absent, but sightseeing in the full afternoon sun can feel draining. Save Aqaba Fort and the old town for later in the day, when the light softens.

The long daylight gives you time for a morning snorkel or a boat trip over the Red Sea reefs. The water is a welcome break from the heat, but don't expect a cool day on the beach. If you're hiking in Wadi Rum, June's heat makes exposed trails a poor choice.

June events and atmosphere

There's no major annual Aqaba festival fixed to June. Jordanian holidays such as Eid al-Adha move through the calendar, so they may fall in June some years. If they do, expect a more local holiday feel and possible changes to opening hours.

If you hate crowds, June can suit you better than the cooler months. November to March is the more popular time to visit Jordan, while summer heat puts some travellers off Aqaba. You may find hotel rates easier on your budget than in the winter high season, though prices vary.

Getting around Aqaba in June

Keep outdoor plans close to the Red Sea in the morning, then retreat indoors during the hottest hours. Aqaba Marine Park is a good base for seeing coral and fish; choose a boat with shade if you're sensitive to the heat.

Travelling with kids? A glass-bottom boat trip lets them spot reef life without a long snorkel in the sun. For dinner, look for sayadieh, a local fish-and-rice dish, around the waterfront. June's dry weather is reliable, but the heat is the main trade-off.
