Mild winter days

December feels sunny and mild in Aqaba, with daytime highs around 22°C and nights near 10°C. Rain is rare, and most days bring plenty of sunshine. You can stroll around Aqaba Fort, explore the old town or take a boat trip without the summer heat.

The shorter days leave less time for beach lounging, and evenings can feel cool by the Red Sea. Snorkelling is still possible, but a long swim may feel chilly. Don't make your whole visit depend on warm, beach-weather afternoons.

Christmas and New Year

Christmas Day is a public holiday in Jordan. Aqaba's Christian community and some hotels may mark it, though the town isn't known for a large December festival. New Year's Eve can bring celebrations at resorts and restaurants, but events vary.

Travelling with kids? A sunny afternoon at the Aqaba Marine Park can work well, while the cool evenings are better for a relaxed meal than a late beach stay.

Crowds and local tips

December falls within Aqaba's popular November-to-March travel season, so it can feel busier than the hottest summer months. Christmas and New Year may bring extra visitors, and prices can rise around the holidays. Outside those dates, the town is often easier to enjoy than during peak holiday spells.

If you hate crowds, visit Aqaba Fort earlier in the day, then wander towards Arab Revolt Plaza as the light softens. The fort and plaza are close to the waterfront, so you can keep sightseeing simple when daylight is shorter. The nearby souk is a good place to try sayadieh, a local fish-and-rice dish, after your walk.
