Ahmedabad Weather in May

May feels fierce

Ahmedabad in May is seriously hot, and it earns its poor score of 0.7 out of 10. Afternoons can reach 44°C, and even nights stay warm, around 27°C. April is only a little cooler, so the heat builds through late spring. With little rain and plenty of sun, a midday walk through the old city can feel draining, so save the pols, the traditional residential lanes, for cooler hours.

If you hate heat, you're better off aiming for December or January, which are far more comfortable for exploring on foot. May is simply not the best time to visit.

Plan around the heat

Keep outdoor sightseeing to the morning, then head indoors during the hottest part of the day. The Calico Museum of Textiles is a good fit, but check its visiting arrangements before you go. Once the day cools, take a short walk along the Sabarmati Riverfront.

May can include Buddha Purnima, a public holiday whose date changes each year. Gujarat schools are usually on summer break, so families may be travelling, but Ahmedabad is generally quieter than in its cooler high season. Hotels and flights can cost less than in December or January, though prices vary.

May is drier than June, when the monsoon starts to bring more rain. That shift can make June feel a little less relentlessly hot, but it also brings humid, wet spells. In May, the main challenge is the dry heat, not rain.
