September still feels warm and humid in Yongzhou. Afternoons can reach 31°C, while evenings are milder, around 21°C. Rain falls on about ten days, so expect occasional wet spells rather than constant rain. The air can feel sticky, and cloud often softens the sunshine.

You can visit Liuzi Temple and wander the old streets between showers. Yangmingshan's forest trails are an option on clearer days, but wet paths can be slippery. Save long climbs for cooler hours, and avoid exposed hikes when the afternoon heat feels draining.

Events and crowds

Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in September, though its date changes each year. It's a family holiday, and you may see mooncakes in local shops. The bigger travel rush comes for China's National Day holiday in October, so September is generally quieter than that period.

If you hate crowds, September is a calmer choice than October's holiday week. It's also outside the hottest part of summer, though the weather stays warmer and wetter than October. I can't promise lower prices everywhere, but you're less likely to face peak-holiday demand.

Make the most of your visit

For a practical local stop, visit Liuzi Temple in Lingling District, then try Dong'an chicken, a well-known local dish. That gives you a useful rainy-day plan close to Yongzhou's historic quarter.

Travelling with kids? Keep outdoor sightseeing flexible. A shower can interrupt a Yangmingshan outing, while the temple and a meal in Lingling make an easier backup. September is a good month for a mixed city-and-nature visit, as long as you're comfortable with humid afternoons.
