October weather

October is Yongzhou's best month overall, with warm afternoons and cooler evenings. The high reaches 26°C, while nights fall to 15°C. Rain is lighter than in September, but you can still expect showers on some days, and skies are often cloudy.

It's a good time to wander Lingling Old Town and visit Liuzi Temple without September's heavier heat. A damp day can make a longer walk less appealing, so keep indoor sights in mind. The shorter daylight also means less time for late-afternoon outings.

National Day crowds

China's National Day holiday runs from October 1 to 7. Popular sights and transport can get crowded, and prices often rise during this busy travel week. Outside the holiday, October is a calmer time to visit than those first days.

If you hate crowds, plan your Yongzhou trip for after the holiday week. Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in October, but its date changes each year, so it isn't a fixed October event.

A local food stop

October's milder weather suits a day trip to the old streets of Lingling, followed by a meal of Dong'an chicken, a well-known Hunan dish from Yongzhou's Dong'an County. It's a more comfortable month for exploring than September, when afternoons are hotter.
