Best Time to Visit Willemstad

Dry and breezy: January to July

Willemstad is warm all year, so the real split is wet or dry. From January to July you get the dry stretch. Days sit around 27 to 28°C, and the trade winds keep the afternoons from feeling heavy. Humidity stays high, but the breeze helps on the waterfront.

March and April are the driest months, with only two or three rainy days. They're ideal for snorkelling at Playa Kenepa (Grote Knip) or diving off the west coast. April and May are a bit cloudier, so don't expect wall-to-wall sun. Showers, when they come, are short.

Crowds and high season

High season runs from about mid-December to April. North American and Dutch visitors escape winter, and flights and hotels fill up. Dutch school holidays also bring families in July and August. If you hate crowds, try May or June. You'll still get dry weather, and Pietermaai and Punda will feel calmer.

Curaçao sits outside the main hurricane belt. Still, October and November are the soggy months, and it's honest to say so.

The wet months: October to November

November is the wettest month by a clear margin, with 106 mm and rain on 15 days. October is close behind on rainy days. Roads can flood in heavy downpours, and some beach days will be washed out. The upside is lower prices and quiet beaches. The sea stays warm. Rain often arrives in bursts, so mornings can still be fine.

September and December sit in the middle. They're mostly fine, with a few more showers than spring.

Events through the year

Carnival is the big one. It builds from January and peaks in February or March, with the Grand Parade (a huge costume march) through Willemstad. Hotels book up, so pick your dates early if this is your goal.

Around 27 April, King's Day is celebrated with street parties and flea markets. Late in the year, the Curaçao North Sea Jazz Festival has been a draw, usually in late summer or early autumn, though dates move. In December, Sinterklaas and the Christmas lights add a cosy feel to the old town.

For a first trip, aim for February to April. For quieter days and good weather, go in May or June.
