Visiting Ulsan in February
February feels wintry
Ulsan is still in winter, and February days feel cool rather than bitter. Highs reach 8°C, while nights can drop to 2°C. Rain falls on around eight days, and clouds often soften the coastal views. You'll get some dry spells, but the sea air can make a walk feel colder.
It's a good month for indoor stops such as the Jangsaengpo Whale Museum, followed by a short look around the harbour. Coastal walks at Daewangam Park can still be lovely, but wind and wet paths may cut them short. Save long, exposed hikes for a milder day. February is warmer than January, but March brings warmer weather and more rain.
Seollal and quieter streets
Seollal, the Lunar New Year holiday, can fall in February. Its dates change each year. Many Koreans travel to see family, so trains and roads may be busy around the holiday, while some restaurants and shops close. Check opening hours if your visit overlaps.
Outside Seollal, February is generally quieter than spring and autumn, when Ulsan draws more visitors. May and October are among the best-loved months for a visit. You may find better-value stays in February, though holiday travel can push demand up. If you hate crowds, choose days outside Seollal for a calmer city break.
Make the coast work
Keep Daewangam Park flexible: take the wooded path to the rocky headland when it's dry, then head back if the wind picks up. The bridge to the rocky island makes a memorable short outing, but spray and slick stone can make it less pleasant in rain.
For a cosy finish, try eonyang bulgogi, Ulsan's famous charcoal-grilled beef, in Eonyang. A warm meal suits the cool evening better than lingering by the waterfront. February won't give you beach weather, but it can offer quieter sights and crisp coastal walks between showers.
