February: warm and mostly dry

February is warm, with sunny spells and little rain. Afternoons can feel hot, but evenings cool down. It's a good month for exploring the historic centre, including the Plaza Morazán and the Metropolitan Cathedral. The clear, dry weather also suits the hilltop views from Parque La Leona.

Save steep walks for cooler parts of the day. The climb around La Leona can feel tiring in the afternoon heat, and February isn't the best month for lush, rain-fed scenery.

A pilgrimage early in the month

The Feast of Our Lady of Suyapa falls on February 3. The Basilica of Suyapa draws pilgrims from across Honduras, so expect a much busier feel around the shrine then. It's a meaningful time to visit if you're interested in local religious life, but allow extra time to get there.

Travelling with kids? The basilica is a memorable stop, but the crowds may be a lot on the feast day.

Quieter than the holiday peak

February usually has fewer holiday visitors than December and January, Tegucigalpa's best months overall. Prices may feel less pressured after that peak, though local demand can rise around the Suyapa celebrations. Outside the pilgrimage, the city is a practical base for museums, markets and Honduran food.

For an easy local meal, try baleadas—flour tortillas filled with beans and other toppings—in the city centre. If you're visiting Suyapa, take a taxi from central Tegucigalpa rather than relying on a long uphill walk in the heat. Check traffic near the basilica on February 3, when pilgrims can slow the journey.
