Best Time to Visit Tangerang

Two seasons: wet and drier

Tangerang sits close to the equator, so it's warm all year. Highs stay around 29–31°C and nights barely cool down. What changes is the rain.

From December to March it rains almost every day. February is the wettest month, with 407 mm. The sky stays grey and the air feels heavy. Low parts of the Greater Jakarta area can flood, and traffic on the toll roads gets slow. If you're staying near the Cisadane River, ask your host about flood risk first.

August and September: the best window

These are your best months, and the data rates both as Good. August is the driest, with 54 mm of rain, and it gets the most sun. September is a little warmer and still fairly dry. You'll still get the odd shower, but afternoons are often bright.

This is the time for walking around Pasar Lama, the old market area with its Chinese-Indonesian roots, and for visiting the Benteng Heritage Museum. It also suits a day at Summarecon Mall Serpong or the BSD City parks without dodging downpours. July is a fair shoulder month with a bit more rain but fewer grey days. October brings the rain back fast, so don't count on it.

Crowds, holidays and events

Tangerang isn't a beach or resort destination, so it has no real high season. Crowds follow local calendars instead. Malls and parks fill up during the long school break in late June and July, and at weekends all year.

Eid al-Fitr is the big one. The date moves each year with the Islamic calendar. Many people leave the city to visit family, so streets can feel oddly empty, and some shops close for a few days. Public transport and the airport at Soekarno-Hatta, which sits in Tangerang, get very busy around it.

Chinese New Year, usually in late January or February, matters here because of the Benteng Chinese community. Expect lanterns and temple visits around Pasar Lama, though it falls in the wet months. The Cisadane River also hosts the Peh Cun boat races, tied to the Chinese calendar and usually in June. Check the dates before you plan around them.

Short on time? Aim for August, carry a small umbrella anyway, and keep travel days away from Eid.
