Best Time to Visit Bogor
Indonesia · weather by month, temperature and rainfall
If you want the most pleasant weather in Bogor, plan your trip for August. Temperatures barely change through the year: highs stay between 28°C and 31°C, so rainfall matters far more than heat when choosing when to go. The rainy season runs over December to March; February is the wettest month with about 384 mm (15.1 in) of rain. December is the least comfortable month, mainly because of the rain.
When to go to Bogor: a seasonal guide
Two seasons: wet and less wet
Bogor is known as the "rain city," and the name fits. It sits just south of Jakarta, at the foot of Mount Salak and Mount Gede, and the hills catch storms most of the year. Temperatures barely move. Days are warm, nights are mild, and the air always feels damp.
The real change is in the rain. From December to March it rains on almost every day. February is the wettest month, with nearly 400 mm. Skies are grey, the sun hardly shows, and afternoon downpours can flood roads and slow the trains. Expect that, and plan indoor time at the Zoology Museum or in the cafés around Suryakancana Street.
The best months for your trip
August is your best bet. It's the driest month and has the most sun, though "dry" here still means some showers. July and September are fair too, and you'll still get plenty of dry hours.
Want to walk the Bogor Botanical Gardens, with its giant trees and orchid houses? Go between June and September. Paths stay drier, and you can wander for hours without ducking under a roof. Planning a day trip to Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park or the Gunung Salak waterfalls? Aim for July to September. Trails are muddy and slippery in the wet months, and the park can close some routes at the start of the year.
October and November are a gamble. Rain returns quickly, and the afternoons often turn stormy. Mornings are usually your best window.
Crowds and events
Bogor is a favourite weekend escape for people from Jakarta. Saturdays and Sundays are busy at the Botanical Gardens and around the Presidential Palace, where spotted deer graze on the lawn. Weekdays are far calmer, whatever the month.
The biggest crowds come during Indonesian school holidays, usually around late June to July, and again at Christmas and New Year. Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan, also fills the roads with day-trippers. Traffic on the Jakarta road can turn a short trip into a long one.
Bogor's anniversary falls in June, and the city marks it with parades and local events. Dates shift each year, so check the local listings. If you hate crowds, travel in August on a weekday. You'll get the best weather and room to breathe.
