Best Time to Visit Depok
Indonesia · weather by month, temperature and rainfall
Weather-wise, August is the best time to visit Depok. Temperatures barely change through the year: highs stay between 29°C and 31°C, so rainfall matters far more than heat when choosing when to go. The rainy season runs over December to March; February is the wettest month with about 384 mm (15.1 in) of rain. December is the least comfortable month, mainly because of the rain.
When to go to Depok: a seasonal guide
Dry season: July to September
Depok sits just south of Jakarta, and the weather is steady all year. It's warm every month. What changes is the rain. August is your best bet. It's the driest month, with about 58 mm and the most sun. July and September are fair, and not far behind.
Even then, don't expect a desert. You'll still get a few showers, and the air stays fairly humid. But afternoons are brighter, and evenings feel a little cooler in July and August. That's a good time to walk around the Universitas Indonesia campus, with its lakes and shady paths, or to visit Situ Pengasinan, one of Depok's small lakes.
Wet season: December to March
This is the real rainy season. January and February are the wettest, and February tops the table at 384 mm. Rain falls on nearly every day of those months. Skies are grey and the sun barely shows.
It doesn't mean a trip is ruined. Rain often comes in heavy bursts, and the ground floods fast. Roads and the KRL commuter line to Jakarta can slow down. If you're staying in Depok, keep plans flexible and stick to malls, cafés and indoor food stops. Try soto betawi, a rich Jakarta-style beef soup, or the cassava snacks the area is known for.
The in-between months
April to June is the drying-out stretch. April is still soggy, but by June you get far fewer rainy days. October and November swing back the other way, with rain building toward the wet season. October is the weaker of the two shoulder periods, as it's already getting gloomy.
Crowds and events
Depok isn't a resort town, so there's no true tourist high season. Traffic is the thing to watch. Weekends and public holidays can clog the roads toward Jakarta and Bogor. Lebaran (Eid al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan) empties the city as people head to their home villages. The date moves each year, so check it before you go. Many shops close for a few days around it.
On 17 August, Independence Day, neighbourhoods put up red-and-white flags and hold street games and contests. It lands in the driest month, so it's a good time to go if you'd like to see local life at its liveliest.
If you want one simple plan, go in August. Want to save money or see the city at its quietest? Aim for June or September instead.
