December feels mild

December is one of Shenzhen's most comfortable months. Days reach about 21°C, while evenings cool to around 14°C. Rain is limited, so you can stroll through the OCT-LOFT arts district or take the coastal path at Shenzhen Bay without planning around frequent showers.

The air can feel a little damp, and cloud often softens the sunshine. It's not reliable beach weather for swimming, but you can still enjoy a walk along Dameisha. Skip ambitious beach days if you're hoping for hot sun.

City days and holiday lights

Cooler weather suits a day at Window of the World or a long walk through Lianhuashan Park. December also brings Christmas displays to shopping areas such as Coco Park, though Christmas isn't a public holiday in mainland China. The winter solstice, Dongzhi, falls in December; families may mark it with tangyuan, sweet rice balls.

Expect more visitors and firmer hotel prices than in the hot, rainy summer months, especially around Christmas and New Year. For a practical change of pace, take the metro to Sea World in Shekou, then walk the waterfront around the ship-shaped Minghua. This works well on a cool evening, when you can browse the restaurants without needing a beach day. Check the last metro time if you're staying elsewhere; late-night plans can mean a taxi back.
