Cool, clear days

December feels mild and noticeably drier than November. Daytime highs reach 20°C, with nights dipping to 13°C. Rain is limited, so you can spend a full day exploring without often needing to dodge showers.

The cooler weather suits walks on the MacLehose Trail and visits to the walled villages of Kat Hing Wai. You can also explore Tai Po Market without the sticky heat of summer. Evenings can feel chilly, especially on exposed hillsides, so don't expect a warm night after a long hike.

Christmas in Hong Kong

Christmas brings decorations and events across Hong Kong. The city's WinterFest is centred on Central, while shopping areas such as Tsim Sha Tsui draw visitors for festive displays. The New Territories are quieter, but you can reach the city celebrations by MTR.

If you hate crowds, spend Christmas Day exploring the quieter villages around Yuen Long instead of heading into Central.
