Mild days outdoors

December is one of Kowloon's most comfortable months. Afternoons feel mild, evenings cooler, and rain is usually brief rather than a day-long washout. You can walk the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, browse the Temple Street Night Market, or take in the harbour views from the Avenue of Stars. With less rain than November or January, outdoor sightseeing is a good bet.

The sea and evenings can feel cool, so don't make a beach day your main plan. Pack a light jacket for a late walk along the waterfront.

Christmas crowds

Hong Kong's Christmas displays bring a festive feel to Tsim Sha Tsui, where hotels and shopping centres dress up for the season. Hong Kong WinterFest often adds decorations and events across the city. Christmas and New Year also draw visitors, so Kowloon's shopping areas and harbourfront can feel packed.

If you hate crowds, visit the waterfront on a weekday and save shopping for quieter hours. December is busier and often pricier than November or January, especially around the holiday period. Those nearby months are also among the best for a visit, but January is cooler and rainier.

Make the most of the harbour

December's shorter daylight hours still leave plenty of time for sightseeing, with around five hours of sun a day. Take the Star Ferry from Tsim Sha Tsui to Central before dusk, then watch the harbour lights come on from the Kowloon side. It's an easy way to enjoy the skyline without committing to a long evening outdoors.
