Shenzhen Weather in May

May: hot and damp

May feels warm from morning to night, with sticky air and frequent showers. The average high is 29°C, and rain falls on many days. April is less wet, while June is hotter and rainier. Expect grey skies and only a few hours of sunshine most days.

You can still explore Shenzhen's indoor sights, such as the Shenzhen Museum or the shops and galleries at OCT Loft. Outdoor plans are less reliable: heavy showers can interrupt a day at Dameisha Beach or a hike on Wutong Mountain. Keep those outings flexible, and avoid making a long trek your only plan.

May Day crowds

China's Labour Day holiday falls in May, around the start of the month. Popular sights and transport can get crowded during the holiday stretch, and hotel prices may rise. Outside it, May is usually quieter and less costly than Shenzhen's popular November-to-February travel season.

Make the most of a wet day

May isn't the best month for a beach-focused trip, but it can work for a flexible city break. Keep outdoor sightseeing close to indoor options, and you'll have somewhere to duck in when the rain starts.
