Shangqiu Weather in March

March feels cool and changeable

March brings spring to Shangqiu, but it doesn't feel warm all day. Afternoons reach about 17°C, while mornings and evenings can dip to 3°C. Rain is limited, and you'll get some sunshine, so it's a good month for walking around the old city and visiting the ancient city walls.

The ground is usually manageable for sightseeing, but don't count on a beach day or warm evenings outdoors. April is milder and wetter, so March suits you if you prefer cooler walks over heat.

Events and crowds

There isn't a major fixed festival in Shangqiu in March. The Lantern Festival can fall in March in some years, but it follows the lunar calendar, so it won't happen then every year. Qingming, a holiday for remembering ancestors, is usually in early April rather than March.

If you hate crowds, March is a quieter choice than April or October, two of Shangqiu's best months to visit. It's outside the main holiday rush, so you may find rooms easier to arrange and prices less pressured than during peak travel periods.

Make the most of the old city

Spend a dry afternoon exploring Shangqiu Ancient City, where the old streets and city walls make a good route on foot. Cool mornings are better for a longer wander; save indoor stops for a damp spell.

Travelling with kids? Keep the walk around the old city flexible, since chilly evenings can make a long day tiring. For a local food stop, try a bowl of Hu spicy soup, a peppery breakfast soup common in Henan. It's especially welcome when the air still feels cold.
