Semarang Weather in February

February: warm and very wet

February stays warm, but rain shapes your day. It rains on most days, with thick cloud and little sunshine. Streets can be slick, and sudden downpours may interrupt walks around Kota Lama or visits to the Old Town's heritage buildings.

You can still enjoy indoor stops, such as the museums in Kota Lama, and take breaks over lumpia, Semarang's famous spring roll. Avoid making a long outdoor walk your only plan. The rain is heavier than January's and eases in March, so keep time free for delays.

Festivals and crowds

Lunar New Year sometimes falls in February. If it does, Sam Poo Kong temple is a focus for celebrations, and the area can draw more visitors. The date changes each year, so the holiday won't always land in this month.

If you hate crowds, February is generally a quieter choice than July and August, Semarang's best months for weather. It's also part of the rainy-season lull, when visitor demand and hotel prices are often lower than in those drier months. Expect a busier feel around local celebrations, though.

Make the rain work for you

Travelling with kids? Keep an indoor stop in reserve for the afternoon showers. The heat and humidity can feel sticky even when the sky is grey, so a long, exposed stroll may wear everyone out.

A practical local fix: try lumpia at Gang Lombok, near the historic Chinatown area, then visit nearby Tay Kak Sie temple if the rain lets up. The covered food stop gives you somewhere to pause between showers, and you won't need to cross town for a taste of Semarang.
