July: hot and very wet

Sanya stays hot in July, with daytime highs around 31°C and nights still warm. Humidity is high, and rain falls on 21 days, often in heavy bursts. Cloud and showers can cut into beach time, so don't count on long, sunny afternoons.

The sea and hotel pools can still be inviting between showers. Keep plans flexible: a rainy spell suits a visit to the Nanshan Temple complex or the indoor shops at Haitang Bay. Long beach days and exposed hikes are less appealing in sticky heat, and storms can disrupt outdoor plans.

Summer holiday crowds

July is part of China's summer school holiday. Families head to Sanya's resorts and beaches, so popular spots such as Dadonghai can feel busy. Prices may be higher than in quieter months, though July's weather is far less comfortable than the December-to-February peak season.

July isn't known for a major fixed festival in Sanya. The school break is the main seasonal draw, and local events can vary. Typhoon-season weather can also bring rough seas, heavy rain and travel disruption.

For a boat trip to Wuzhizhou Island, check the ferry status before travelling to the Haitang Bay pier. Services can stop when conditions turn rough, and a cancelled crossing is a frustrating way to lose a day.
