July: hot and humid

Minhang feels sticky in July, with highs around 32°C and nights that stay warm. Humidity is high, and rain falls on many days, often interrupting plans. June is wetter, while August is almost as rainy as July, so don't expect a dry spell.

Keep outdoor sightseeing short and build in indoor breaks. Qibao Ancient Town's lanes and canals are best enjoyed between showers, but its crowds and humidity can make a long wander tiring. Save air-conditioned malls or a quiet café for the afternoon. Long walks through Minhang Sports Park may feel hard work in the heat.

Summer crowds and events

July brings China's school summer holidays, so family attractions can be busier than during quieter autumn weeks. Hotels may also cost more than in less popular months, though October's National Day holiday can be crowded and pricey too.

There isn't a major annual festival in Minhang that reliably falls in July. Instead, you'll notice more local families out during the school break. If you hate crowds, visit Qibao Ancient Town on a weekday rather than a weekend.
