Kano Weather in January

Dry, sunny days

January is one of Kano's best months for getting around. Days are warm, while mornings and evenings feel cool, especially after sunset. The air is dry, with almost no rain, so you can explore the old city without worrying about showers.

Visit Gidan Makama Museum or Kurmi Market in the cooler part of the day. Dala Hill is a good outing too, but its exposed climb can feel hard in the afternoon heat. Save longer walks for morning, and take a break indoors when the sun feels fierce.

New Year and local life

New Year's Day is a public holiday in Nigeria. Some businesses and services may close, so don't expect every shop to follow its usual routine. Kano's famous Durbar takes place around Eid, not on a fixed January date, so it may not fall during your visit.

If you hate crowds, go after the New Year holiday. January is a popular dry-season month, but Kano is not usually packed with visitors. Prices can be firmer around the holiday than in quieter, wetter months; once it passes, the city often feels more settled.

Kurmi Market's lanes can be confusing, and it's easy to lose your bearings while browsing. Agree on a meeting point by a main entrance before you split up, or ask a local shopkeeper to point you back to it.
