Jilin Weather in May

Mild days, cool evenings

May is one of Jilin's best months, with mild afternoons and chilly evenings. You can spend a comfortable day walking Beishan Park or exploring the city's riverside paths. The long daylight gives you time to fit both into one outing.

Rain comes on several days, though, and the sky can stay cloudy. Keep indoor stops, such as the Jilin Manchu Museum, in mind for a wet afternoon. The evenings feel much cooler than the afternoons, so don't plan a long riverside stay without an extra layer.

May Day brings a rush

China's Labour Day holiday falls in May. It's a busy time for domestic travel, so expect more visitors around Jilin's main sights and heavier demand for transport and rooms. Outside the holiday, the city is usually calmer than during peak summer travel.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling over the Labour Day break. May is still a popular month, but outside the holiday you're more likely to find a relaxed pace and less pressure on prices than during summer's busier months. September is another popular time to visit.

Make room for rain

May is wetter than April, but drier than June. Showers can interrupt a hike or a day around Songhua Lake, so keep your plans flexible. The mild weather still suits city walks and park visits; save long outdoor outings for clearer spells.
