October weather in Jiaxing

October is mild and much less rainy than September. Days reach around 24°C, while evenings cool to about 15°C. You'll get some cloudy spells and occasional showers, but the weather usually suits walking around Nanhu or exploring the canals of Xitang.

The cooler air makes a long day outdoors more comfortable than in September's heat. Rain can still interrupt a boat ride or leave old stone lanes slick, so keep indoor stops in mind. Skip a tightly timed outdoor itinerary if the forecast turns wet.

Holidays and crowds

China's National Day holiday begins on October 1, and Jiaxing's popular sights can get packed. Nanhu and nearby water towns draw domestic visitors, with busier transport and higher hotel prices during the holiday. Outside that peak, October is still a popular month, but visits feel calmer and prices are generally less pressured.

Mid-Autumn Festival sometimes falls in October, though its date changes each year. You may see family gatherings and seasonal mooncakes; don't assume the festival will land in your travel week.

Families who want quieter canal walks may prefer dates outside National Day week.

A local tip

At Xitang, wear shoes with grip for the narrow stone lanes beside the canals, especially after rain. The covered Langpeng walkway offers shelter while you explore, and you can pause for a bowl of local wontons when the weather turns damp.

October's pleasant conditions make Jiaxing a strong choice for a relaxed city-and-water-town break. Just expect a very different feel during the national holiday rush.
