November feels cool and damp

There isn't a major fixed November festival in Jiaxing to plan around. Singles' Day, on November 11, is a huge online shopping event across China, not a local celebration or a reason to expect crowds at the sights. Families who prefer quieter lanes may find weekdays especially easygoing.

A good day by Nanhu

For a relaxed city break, November works well: the cooler air suits a slow walk around Nanhu, followed by a warm bowl of Jiaxing zongzi, the city's famous sticky-rice dumplings. Skip a long lakeside outing when rain is steady; the damp can make the open paths feel colder than the thermometer suggests.

At Nanhu, ask locally about boat services before setting out. Grey, windy weather can make a lake trip less pleasant, and a walk around the lakeside is an easy alternative. Since November brings less daylight than October, leave time to enjoy the area before dusk.
