March feels hot

Hyderabad gets properly hot in March, especially by afternoon. The high reaches 37°C, while evenings are much more comfortable. Rain is scarce, so you're unlikely to lose much sightseeing time to showers.

The cooler part of the day suits a walk around Charminar and the lanes of Laad Bazaar. Save outdoor stops for morning or evening, and avoid a long climb at Golconda Fort in the midday heat. April is hotter still, so March is a better choice if you're visiting before summer peaks.

Holi and local plans

Holi, the festival of colours, falls in March in some years, though its date changes. You may see celebrations around the city, but check local dates before building your plans around them. The weather is sunny and mostly dry, which can make time outdoors enjoyable outside the hottest hours.

If you're travelling with kids, keep the midday stretch low-key; the heat can make even short walks tiring. A relaxed lunch of biryani in the AC and an indoor visit to the Salar Jung Museum can break up the day.

Crowds and costs

March is quieter than Hyderabad's more popular November and December travel season. You'll usually find fewer visitors at major sights, and hotel rates can be easier on your budget than in those busy months. It's not the coolest time for a city break, though, and the heat is already a real factor.

For Golconda Fort, take an auto or cab to the entrance rather than walking there from the main road in the sun. The fort's steep paths and steps are demanding enough without adding a hot approach. Keep the climb for the morning, then explore nearby Qutb Shahi Tombs later only if you're still comfortable.
