Mild days outdoors

December is one of Hyderabad's best months for getting out and exploring. Afternoons reach about 28°C, while mornings and evenings feel cooler, around 15°C. Rain is scarce, so a shower is unlikely to disrupt your plans.

You can wander around Charminar and Laad Bazaar, or spend a few hours at Golconda Fort without the sticky heat of warmer months. The fort's stone steps still take effort, though; save the climb for a cooler part of the day. If you're hoping for lush, rain-washed scenery, December isn't the month for it.

Christmas and New Year

Christmas brings services and decorations to churches around the city, including St Mary's Basilica in Secunderabad. New Year celebrations add a festive feel, especially around hotels and restaurants. Hyderabad's best-known major cultural festivals don't usually make December their main event, so don't expect a citywide festival calendar.

Travelling with kids? The comfortable weather makes a visit to the Salar Jung Museum easier than a long, hot afternoon outdoors.

Crowds and local tips

December is popular for good reason, so you'll find more visitors than in the hotter months. Around Christmas and New Year, demand can rise at hotels and busy restaurants, though the city isn't uniformly packed. November is also a good month to visit; January stays pleasant, but afternoons get warmer.

For a practical Old City tip, visit Charminar before browsing Laad Bazaar. The market's narrow lanes can feel crowded, and bangles are easier to look over when you're not rushing to beat closing time. At Golconda, wear shoes that grip the worn stone steps.
