In July, Huzhou has average highs of 32°C (90°F) and lows of 26°C (79°F). July is summer in China. The month is wet, with about 208 mm (8.2 in) of rain spread over 18 days, making it the second wettest month of the year. Is July a good time to visit Huzhou?
July is not the best time to visit Huzhou (1.8/10) mainly because of the rain. The weather is much better in October.
Visiting Huzhou in July
July: hot and sticky
Huzhou feels hot, humid and often wet in July. The high reaches 32°C, while nights stay warm. Rain falls on many days, and thick cloud can make the long daylight feel less useful for sightseeing. You'll get some sun, but don't count on clear skies.
The weather makes slow visits to Nanxun Ancient Town more comfortable than long outdoor hikes. You can duck into old houses and tea shops between canal-side walks. Save open-air sightseeing for breaks in the rain, and avoid planning a full day on exposed trails at Moganshan. Sudden showers can also make paths slippery.
Summer crowds and events
July brings China's summer school holidays, so family attractions and popular sights can feel busy. Huzhou isn't at its quietest, and rooms may cost more than in October, one of the best months to visit. Rainy days can still make some outings quieter.
There isn't a major July festival I'd build a trip around. Instead, look for lotus flowers around Taihu Lake and enjoy the evening atmosphere along Nanxun's canals. If you hate crowds, visit Nanxun on a weekday and keep your schedule flexible.
Make the weather work
Travelling with kids? Plan an indoor break for the sticky afternoon, then head back out when the rain eases. Huzhou's museums and the covered halls at Nanxun give you somewhere to pause without losing the day.
A local tip: at Moganshan, use the shuttle buses between scenic areas rather than walking every stretch in the heat and rain. You'll save energy for the shady bamboo paths and views, and avoid turning a pleasant outing into a slog. Keep Nanxun as your backup if the mountain trails are too wet.
