Huzhou Weather in February

February feels damp and chilly

February in Huzhou is still winter. Days reach about 10°C, but nights can fall to 2°C, and the air often feels clammy. Rain falls on around 11 days, with plenty of cloud and only a little sunshine. January is colder and drier; March is milder but wetter.

You can spend a drizzly spell exploring Huzhou Museum or the covered lanes of Nanxun Ancient Town. On clearer days, a walk beside Nanxun's canals is pleasant, though stone paths can be slippery after rain. Long outdoor visits may feel uncomfortable once the sun goes in, so don't count on a full day at scenic spots.

Holidays and crowds

Chinese New Year sometimes falls in February, but its date changes each year. When it does, expect more local visitors, busy transport and some shops or restaurants to close for part of the holiday. The Lantern Festival, held on the fifteenth day of the lunar new year, can also bring evening celebrations.

If you hate crowds, avoid travelling during the Chinese New Year break. Outside holiday dates, February is generally quieter than warmer months, and visitor demand is lower. Rooms and transport may cost more during the holiday rush, though, so the month isn't always a bargain.

Make the most of Nanxun

Travelling with kids? Nanxun's short canal-side walks and small museums give you places to duck indoors when the weather turns wet.

A useful local tip: take a boat through Nanxun's waterways if the rain lets up, then warm up with a bowl of Huzhou wontons in town. Keep the boat ride flexible, since a grey, drizzly afternoon can make the canals less enjoyable. February's short, cool days suit a gentle visit better than a packed outdoor itinerary.
