June feels hot

June brings summer heat to Beijing. Afternoons can feel sticky, with highs around 33°C, while evenings cool down. Rain falls on about 11 days, so a shower may interrupt a walk.

You'll enjoy the long daylight for a morning visit to the Forbidden City or an evening stroll around Houhai. The Great Wall is exposed, so a steep hike feels tiring in the midday heat. Save it for a cooler part of the day, and keep indoor sights for rainy spells.

Festivals and local treats

The Dragon Boat Festival sometimes falls in June. Its date changes each year, but you may see local celebrations and eat zongzi, sticky rice wrapped in leaves. June 1 is Children's Day, with events for children at some venues.

Crowds and costs
