March weather in Wuhu

March feels like a changeable start to spring. Afternoons can be mild, but mornings and evenings are cool, and rain falls on around ten days. Cloudy spells are common, so don't expect long, bright days outside.

It's a decent month for walks through Jinghu Park or along the Yangtze, especially on a dry afternoon. Rain can interrupt longer outdoor plans, and damp paths may make a day at Zheshan Park less pleasant. April is warmer, but also wetter.

What to do, and when

Wuhu doesn't have a major, fixed March festival that visitors can count on. International Women's Day and China's Arbor Day both fall in March, but they're not reasons to expect citywide celebrations. The date of the Lantern Festival changes each year, so it sometimes falls in March, but not always.

If you hate crowds, March is a quieter choice than October, Wuhu's best-known month for visiting. It's generally between the busy holiday periods, so popular sights may feel calmer and accommodation may cost less than in October. Prices still vary, though, and there's no guarantee of a bargain.

A useful local tip

Travelling with kids? A wet afternoon is a good time to visit Wuhu Museum rather than trying to keep plans outdoors. Save Jinghu Park for a break in the rain, when its paths are more comfortable.

For a rainy-day meal, look for Wuhu xiaolongbao, small steamed buns served hot. March's damp weather makes a warm local lunch especially welcome. If sunshine matters most, nearby Yangzhou has better weather this month, though you'll need to travel for it.
