June weather in Vilnius

June feels mild and changeable in Vilnius. Afternoons reach about 21°C, while evenings can cool to 11°C. Rain falls on around 15 days, so showers may interrupt a walk, even during long, bright evenings.

The weather suits wandering the Old Town, climbing Gediminas' Tower and sitting by the Vilnia River in Užupis. You can also walk the paths around Bernardine Garden, but muddy stretches after rain can make them less pleasant. Save a long outdoor plan for a day with a clear forecast, and keep indoor stops like the Palace of the Grand Dukes in mind.

Midsummer celebrations

June brings long days, with about 17 hours of daylight. Vilnius's Culture Night, known locally as Kultūros naktis, usually takes place in June, with performances and art events around the city. Its date changes, so check the schedule before you go.

On June 24, Lithuania marks Joninės, also called Rasos, a Midsummer holiday with bonfires and folk customs. Celebrations are especially well known in Kernavė, outside Vilnius. For families, the long evening light leaves plenty of time for a relaxed Old Town stroll before dinner.

Crowds and practical tips

June is the start of summer high season. Vilnius gets busier than in May, and popular sights and hotels can cost more than in quieter months. July is often busier still, while June and August to September are among the best months overall for a visit.

For a handy rain break, head to Pilies Street and try šaltibarščiai, the bright-pink cold beet soup served in summer. It's a local favourite, and a cosy meal can be welcome after a damp walk. At the Hill of Three Crosses, paved paths lead uphill, but rain can make the climb slippery.
